Close Encounters at Bwindi Lodge

Gorilla at Bwindi LodgeVisitors at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge weren't woken this week by a knock on their door and a call of "tea", but by the local wildlife as an 18 strong gorillas group spent time feeding in the grounds of the property.

The lodge is positioned close to the boundary of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and the lush vegetation in its gardens attracts gorillas most years. They are so relaxed in these surroundings that one female actually gave birth at the lodge this year.

While a limit of an hour with the gorillas is imposed on guests tracking them within the park, there is no such restriction when the gorillas come to you at your lodge. You can spend as much time (at a distance and supervised by lodge staff and national park guards) as the gorillas wish to spend with you.
