Gorilla News from Rwanda

Gorilla in the Bamboo Forest, RwandaIn Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park, the return of the rainy season has brought new growth to the bamboo forests favoured by gorillas. The moisture triggers the bamboo to sprout new shoots and leaves and this growth means that many of the gorilla families become less mobile as there's no need to search far for food.

The Susa Group, one of the largest of the gorilla groups in the park, and one of the favourite groups for tracking, split this month. It's believed that this will lead to the creation of a new, totally independent gorilla family. The dominant males of the two groups (which are currently still considered as sub-groups of the Susa Group), seem to be avoiding each other more and more.
