Climbing Kilimanjaro - Climb Kit
Having the right kit, and practising with it, will mean you're more comfortable when climbing Kilimanjaro. Detailed below is the kit which is provided and the things you need to bring for your climb. A final section shows some items which can be rented.

Personal Climbing Kit
- Thermal hat
- Wide brimmed hat
- Headlamp and spare batteries
- Sun cream (>factor 25, preferably 40)
- Sunglasses (must cover eyes completely)
- Scarf
- Thermal waterbottles 2 x 2 litres or a backpack water carrier – Platypus, Camel Bak etc, with an insulated mouth tube to prevent freezing on way to the summit.
- Waterproof jacket (Gore-Tex or similar with hood)
- Poncho or umbrella for the rainforest sections
- Fleece x 2 (1 heavy & 1 light)
- Shirts x 2
- Thermal gloves
- Waterproof outer glove / mitten
- Thermal underwear
- Lightweight trousers x 2 (not jeans)
- Waterproof trousers
- Socks x 6 (proper hiking socks are best)
- Waterproof hiking boots (worn in)
- Walking poles x 2 (very useful on descents and helps reduce stress on knees)
- Small towel
- Gaiters (keep out small stones and water)
- Medication (list the medication you take or intend to take)
- Soft kitbag – must be soft to fit into the porters' kitbags. The porters carry this.
- Day rucksack (around 30 litres for waterproofs / water and any other essentials when walking day to day)
- Waterproof cover for your day pack
