Cheetah in Namibia

Two male cheetah were released into the Kulala Wilderness Reserve in Namibia on June 27th. The two were relocated from the commercial farmland area of Witvlei and had been kept at Na'an Kuse Wildlife Sanctuary for three weeks. They are both estimated to be about four years old, weighing around 50kg (110lbs). The two lazed around in their cages upon arrival and had to be prompted to leave, finally heading toward the dry Tsauchab riverbed. Radio collars were also fitted to help monitor their movements. The Reserve and the greater Namib Naukluft area were once used mainly for subsistence goat farming. Now, it's rehabilitated arid ecosystem is a safe refuge for these magnificent creatures.
