Lettuce In The Desert

Lettuce in the Desert, NamibiaWolwedans have three camps in the Namib-Naukluft Reserve in Namibia. With a huge wilderness area full of incredible pastel coloured grasses, sands and rock formations, it's somewhere our clients love. The owners of Wolwedans are passionate about food and opened an academy in Windhoek where they could train safari chefs and kitchen staff before sending then out to cater for clients at their lodges in the middle of nowhere.

To help their chefs at the camps serve fresh produce, they've just constructed a greenhouse close to the lodges, which is operated with drip irrigation, both reducing the amount of water to a tiny amount and avoiding the need to fly in fresh produce from Windhoek. Five varieties of lettuce, a selection of herbs and spinach are harvested every morning for the kitchens, and are proving very popular on the plates of guests throughout the day.
