Listen to your guide - The value of listening to your guide, and trusting their experience, came home to riders in Kenya’s Chyulu Hills on a riding safari with Patrick Stanton.
As they sat watching a big bull elephant with enormous tusks, a huge male lion spooked both the horses and the elephant. While the elephant disappeared at a run, Patrick told everyone to turn their nervous horses and face the lion – which must have been against their better instincts! However, they listened and did as they were told, and as Patrick cracked his whip at the lion it turned tail and trotted into a nearby thicket.
The lion and elephant pictured are from a different encounter – but the photo was still taken in the same region and from horseback.
