Aardvark Safaris’ Sponsored Students Gain Silver Guiding Award

Mika, Aardvark Sponsorsed Guide, KenyaMany of our guests have enjoyed Mika’s guiding skills at Kicheche and I was pleased to have him as my family’s guide when we stayed for three nights at the main camp in March 2009 – three years since I’d last met him at Koiyaki. We enjoyed views of both a lion and a leopard on our first game drive, followed up with lion cubs, cheetah and much more over the next couple of days. It was a real delight for me and my kids to be guided by someone from the local community who knew the area like the back of his hand. It’s a testament to the amount of hard work he put in through secondary level school and guide school that he is now able to enjoy a career close to home.

I was also delighted to discover that Mika recently gained his Silver guiding award from the Kenyan Professional Safari Guides Association an award currently held by just 109 guides in the whole country. He is joined in this qualification by another of Aardvark’s sponsored students David Njapit – congratulations to them both.

PS. You may have seen Mika’s name spelt Micah in the past. It seems this is how the guide school decided he spelt it and we followed suit. In fact the correct spelling is Mika, even if many official guiding documents now have Micah on them.
