African Horse Safaris
African Horseback Safaris offer riding safaris throughout the vast wilderness of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Travelling through this area on horseback is an incredible experience, and offers a great opportunity to see game at close range. The operation is owned by the renowned horsewoman, Sarah Jane Gullick, whose knowledge of, and love for, the area adds to the experience.
Seven or ten day riding safaris are available, although shorter stays can be arranged, and during the safari you will ride for between four and six hours each day. Accommodation is in classic style tented camps, with secluded large twin bedded tents each with their own en-suite and spacious verandah with armchairs overlooking the flood plain. Centrally there is a large furnished dining tent. Tucked away in the trees is a small pool. Groups have a maximum of eight riders with horses that are immaculately cared for, beautifully mannered and each rider is matched to a horse with the right personality.
On a riding safari through the Okavango Delta, an area bursting with life, the bush continuously shifts and transforms as you move from island to island. As a rider, you feel so much closer to game, and also get to experience a wide variety of habitats. Riding alongside the zebra, giraffe or buffalo found in this area is an incredible experience, but if guests want a break from the saddle, game drives, both day and night, bird walks, and seasonal mokoro trips can be organised.
