Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris is located in the eastern tip of Botswana, in the northern Tuli Game Reserve.  This huge and pristine tract of land is full of wildlife and guests have the chance to canter with zebra, wildebeest and giraffe in the open plains, to see huge numbers of elephant, and perhaps the elusive leopard in its natural habitat.  Much of the riding takes place on the banks of the famous Limpopo River and in the dry season there are long canters on the dry river bed.

This is fast paced riding and the 31 horses incluce boerperds, shire cross, thoroughbreds, appaloosas and South African warmblood ranging in size from 14.3hh to 17hh.  The horses have been hand picked for the area and all have good temperaments and experience of being around wildlife.  You should expect to spend between four to seven hours a day in the saddle.  There will be the odd jump to cross and steep riverbank to negotiate.  There are several riding safaris available to guests at Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris: either spend seven nights on the Tuli Safari, exploring the Tuli reserve where you overnight in simple fly camps sleeping out under the stars; or you can stay at Two Mashatus camp for as many days as you wish, just riding out from camp each day (there is no fly camping option with this safari and it is only available in March and November); or choose the Big Five Safari where you divide your eight day safari with four days at Limpopo Valley Horse safaris and the other four with Horizon Horseback Adventures in South Africa (see separate page).

Accommodation is a combination of tented camps with long drop loos on raised platforms, and wilderness safari camps which comprise canvas dome tents, single beds with sleeping bags, camp fires, paraffin lanterns, bucket showers and hygienic pit latrines. Kgothla, an old tribal court on the western periphery of Mashatu, is also used on some riding safaris.  This is a circular boma made of leadwood trees and guests sleep in the open, on camp beds around a large central fire.  This is a fun night out in the bush.
