Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris operates in The Tuli Block, in Botswana's Mashatu Game Reserve. It is an area of great diversity with magnificent vistas and land formations as ancient as time itself. It is also home to a multitude of wildlife species including large herds of elephant, prides of lion and cheetah. Along the river courses, huge riverine trees provide shade for eland, impala, wildebeest, giraffe and zebra, whilst at night, the bat eared fox, african wild cat and the magnificent leopard search for prey. Some 350 species of birds may be seen.
Limpopo Valley Horse Safaris is based at Fort Jamesons in the southern area of the reserve. Accommodation is in the form of log cabins, which although rustic in character, provide basic luxuries. Each cabin has hot water showers and flushing toilets, comfortable single beds with mosquito nets. Whilst out on safari guest stay at wilderness safari camps which comprise canvas dome tents, single beds with sleeping bags, camp fires, paraffin lanterns, bucket showers and hygienic pit latrines. Kgothla, an old tribal court on the western periphery of Mashatu, is also used on some riding itineraries. Comprising leadwood logs in a circular boma, participants sleep in sleeping bags on stretchers around a large fire in the middle.
The riding trails are conducted in the vicinity of the Limpopo Valley, and cover both the riverine terrain, and the true African mopane bushveld, including the famous granite rock formations of the Tuli. The horses have been individually chosen for their temperament and rideability and have substantial experience within the game reserve. Among the breeds represented include the Boerperd, Basuto, Anglos and S.A. Warmbloods. They range in size from 14 h.h. to 16.2 h.h. and are an assortment of colour. The safaris are led by very experienced horsemen and game rangers who have outstanding knowledge of the bush and wildlife.
