Okavango Horse Safaris
Okavango Horse Safaris operate riding safaris in the remote central region of Botswana's Okavango Delta. The Delta is an incredible maze of papyrus lined waterways, grassland and woodland rich in birdlife and game.
Okavango Horse Safaris is owned and run by PJ and Barney Bestelink. They have been keeping horses in the Okavango for over a decade and they are truly experts in horsemanship and as guides to this part of the Delta. Each riding safari is for five or ten days, and you will spend between four and six hours a day in the saddle. There is a maximum of eight guests on each safari. The itinerary will be split between one base and one or two fly camps. The base camp has comfortable tents with en-suite facilities. The fly camps have dome tents or bedrolls under mosquito nets. Activities include saddlebag breakfasts and picnic lunches en route.
Game viewing by horseback will give you the opportunity to get much closer to wildlife and fully appreciate the sights and sounds of the Okavango Delta. Riding country includes grassland, seasonally flooded plains dotted with palm islands and mopane forests. The riding safaris use natural game trails and you may well come across herds of elephant or buffalo and possibly get the opportunity to gallop alongside giraffe. Non-riding partners are welcome with time spent on game drives, bird walks, swimming and at leisure.
