Explore Gorongosa
Explore Gorongosa is a small environmentally sensitive tented camp that moves through the spectacular wilderness of the Gorongosa National Park as the seasons dictate. This authentic camp has a private exclusive concession with the park, allowing guests great privacy. The Gorongosa National Park once rivalled the Serengeti as a destination, and has a greater variety of habitats and landscapes and landscapes than any other park in Africa. It is in the process of being restored to its former glory as a reserve of international renown.
Accommodation & Facilities
The camp has just four simple but luxurious tents, each with a supremely comfortable bed, a bucket shower and an eco loo. Each tent is located to offer guests privacy and a beautiful view, and is also well shaded by mature trees. The camp has an open-air ‘library and lounge’ and a large dining tent, as well as plenty of hammocks for those hours when doing nothing seems so appealing. Most meals will be eaten outside, and the location will depend on the time of year, water levels, and guests’ preferences. Explore Gorongosa have an ethos of supporting local people and their development, and they source much of their food locally. All of the camp staff are also from villages adjacent to the park.
Wildlife & Activities
The wildlife in the Gorongosa National Park is very diverse, and birdlife is especially good. The quality of the guiding is superb and the activities on offer include game drives, walking safaris, fly camping, day or overnight trips to climb Mount Gorongosa, and visits to local villages. As the seasons change different parts of the park may be more or less accessible, and the focus of activities changes as a result. This offers visitors the chance to see the park in a very different light at different times of year.
