Guludo Beach Lodge
Guludo Beach Lodge is a small, privately owned eco lodge situated in the far north of the Quirimbas National Park on the Mozambique mainland coast. The lodge is squeezed between the dazzling Indian Ocean and the wild African bush and looks over one of the best beaches in Mozambique. The objective of the lodge is to provide a luxury tourism product that will relieve poverty and go on to protect the environment and to this end, over 5% of the cost per night goes directly to the lodge’s own UK registered charity that works tirelessly to help the local community.
Accommodation & Facilities
Guludo offers simple but comfortable accommodation in either a rustic tented room or in one of the airy stone and thatch ensuite bandas (cottages). Both the tent and bandas are beautifully appointed right on the edge of the beach to make the most of the sea views, cooling sea breeze and give a feeling of being outside while inside. Each of the bandas has a quirky alfresco bathroom with an outside bucket shower and adjoining raised stilted toilet with a compost long drop ‘loo with a view’. In keeping with the lodge’s eco ethos there is no electricity in the rooms and instead they are romantically lit at night with lanterns. All of the tents and bandas are furnished with hand crafted furniture and soft cushions covered in vibrant local fabrics. In the early morning you can enjoy tea in bed and watch fishing dhows as they sail south. Food is simple, and home cooked, and makes the most of locally grown vegetables and fresh seafood.
Wildlife & Activities
Guludo boasts incredible wildlife, both above and below the water. Perfectly situated to discover these wonders, you can dive the pristine coral reefs, explore the islands, soak up the rich local culture and take in the vast African bush. Guests at Guludo can be as relaxed or active as they wish. Among the activities on offer are scuba diving, snorkelling, beach walks, sunset sailing trips, whale watching trips (seasonal) and visits to a hide in the heart of the national park from where elephants are sometimes seen roaming in the vast African bush. Guests may also take the opportunity to discover the traditional way of life and local culture by visiting the village of Guludo or the ancient forts of nearby Ibo Island.
