Etendeka Mountain Camp
Etendeka Mountain Camp is located in the foothills of the Grootberg on the edge of the rocky Namib Desert. The ancient basalt in the area has been eroded away to leave a dramatic landscape of flat-topped hills and plains strewn with weathered boulders. The Etendeka Concession is part of the much larger Damaraland, which is home to a number of desert-adapted species. The camp is owned and run by Dennis Liebenberg who has many years of experience in ecotourism in southern Africa. His wife Claire and young son Ian also live at the camp. Arriving by vehicle, or plane to Palmwag, the access is by camp vehicle on a fairly bumpy drive of up to 1½ hours, including game viewing.
Accommodation & Facilities
Etendeka has ten walk-in, shaded tents each with a verandah from which to enjoy the view. Flush toilets and hot bush showers are provided. There are a maximum of 16 guests at any time, so all guests are assured personal attention in a relaxed atmosphere.
Wildlife & Activities
While at Etendeka you can see their very own "big five" - trees that is, that are thick-stemmed, and have adapted to less than 100mm of rainfall each year. There is also a lot of bird life in the area, and whilst staying at the camp guests can go on a scenic drive or on a guided nature walk. Hartmann's mountain zebra, oryx, giraffe or perhaps even the desert-adapted elephant or black rhino may be seen.
