Ant's Nest and Ant's Hill Riding
Ant’s Hill and Ant’s Nest are two privately owned properties on adjoining game reserves in the malaria free Waterberg region. The riding here is safe for children and adults and offers the opportunity to see great game in a private reserve. Riding is only one of the activities at Ant’s and the area is also well suited to non-riding guests.
The 40 or so horses are a mixture of thoroughbreds and Arab-Boerperd crosses generally ranging in size between 14.2hh and 16.2 hh, although there are also some fabulous smaller ponies for children. The horses are all fit, reliable and responsive providing something for everyone; from the most experienced to someone who has never ridden before. The pace can be as fast or as relaxed as you would like, giving these safaris a more relaxed feel than an intensive five day safari, for example.
Accommodation & Facilities
All riding at Ant’s Hill and Ant’s Nest is based from the magnificent lodges where guests enjoy beautifully decorated accommodation with a classic African atmosphere. Ant’s Hill, which caters for up to 12 people, is sophisticated and comfortable with spectacular and spacious rooms. Ant’s Nest with six rooms is more of a family home and is perfect for groups of friend or families. There are swimming pools at both lodges where guests can relax during the heat of the day. Non-riders are very welcome here and there is plenty to keep everyone busy, from game drives, walks and swimming, to bird watching and mountain biking.

Ant's Nest and Ant's Hill Riding Safaris – A Personal View
Ant's Hill and Ant's Nest offer horse riding safaris in the malaria free Waterberg with fit, reliable and responsive horses, providing a choice for both for the professional rider and the absolute beginner. They have a string of over 40 horses which are made up of big thoroughbreds and Arab-boerperd crosses and include some fabulous children’s ponies. During my short stay here, I managed to get out for a superb morning game ride . We got very close to sable and lots of other antelope and had a few fast canters along open sandy tracks, with a magnificent guide. The hosts at Ant's encourage everyone to try the riding safaris and many guests go home hooked...even if they've never ridden before!
