Samara
Samara is a privately owned game reserve located in South Africa’s malaria free Eastern Cape region. The reserve, which is approximately a three hour drive from Port Elizabeth, is one of the largest private reserves (70 000 acres) in South Africa. Samara therefore guarantees guests ultimate privacy and seclusion to explore the variety of ecosystems within the reserve. Samara is well off the beaten track making it an ideal place to spend a few days relaxing and game viewing and away from the rest of the world.
Accommodation & Facilities
Karoo Lodge is a lovingly restored homestead reflecting its colonial past but pampering guests with modern day luxuries. The Lodge caters for individual travellers and families but can also be booked on an exclusive use basis for up to 12 guests. Karoo Lodge has just six decadent and beautifully decorated spacious suites. The main area of the lodge includes a large sitting area and dining room. There is also a swimming pool and tennis court within the well maintained gardens. Also within the reserve are the Mountain Retreat and The Manor, both of which are exclusive use fully staffed properties ideal for families and friends travelling together.
Wildlife & Activities
Samara contains four of South Africa's recognised Biomes (Thicket, Savanna, Grassland and Nama Karoo). This diversity allows a wide variety of flora and fauna to thrive. Flora includes ancient Shepherd's Trees, Wild Olives, Karoo Sage and Camphor bushes, amongst others. During their stay, guests have the opportunity to enjoy game drives in the company of expert guides with the chance of viewing a variety of animals and birds in their natural habitat including cheetah, buffalo, wildebeest, white rhino, Cape Mountain Zebra, giraffe, aardvark, Meerkats and herds of antelope. Guided walks are also possible.
