Tswalu

Tswalu Kalahari Reserve covers 1000km2 (over 100 000 ha) of land on the edge of the Kalahari desert making it the largest privately owned game reserve in South Africa.
Accommodation & Facilities
The Motse is an African village consisting of eight authentically stone walled and thatch-roofed bungalows. Each bungalow is elegantly appointed with indoor and outdoor heated showers (the outdoor version looks out across the Kalahari plain) and private sundecks. Two are family rooms accommodating four guests each. Guests can either enjoy meals in the dining room, or in the privacy of their own suite lounge. Above all, Tswalu's game reserve accommodation achieves a rustic feel without compromising its private and luxurious facilities.
Tarkuni Villa is set in its own private area of the Tswalu Reserve, the ultimate in secluded luxury. Tarkuni is perfect for families and small groups of 8 - 10 guests. This exclusive Villa is completely self-contained; guests at Tarkuni can enjoy flexibility with private game viewing vehicles and a dedicated chef. Built amid two rolling mountain ranges the accommodation contains four luxury bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and outdoor heated shower, open plan lounge and dining room, library, covered patio and heated swimming pool. Specific accommodation for children is also available, with two sets of bunk beds and separate nanny quarters with two single beds and an en suite bathroom.
Tswalu has a new sleep-out platform, the Malori, where guests can sleep under the stars in magnificent style and comfort, with a thatched roof towards the back of the platform to provide shelter if required. The Malori is located about 5 miles from the main lodge, and offers those who opt to sleep here the chance to experience at close quarters the nocturnal sounds of the bush and the incredible swathe of stars in the desert night sky. Dinner is prepared while the guests enjoy sun-downers and the amazing Kalahari sunsets, and the following morning they can ride, walk or drive back to the lodge.
Wildlife & Activities
Guests can take guided walks across the silent red dunes. Game drives are in open-sided safari vehicles stopping at the scenic spots to allow visitors to enjoy an impressive sunset or splendid bush dinner. Bird-watching, star-gazing and exciting visits to the habituated meerkat dens of Tswalu are just some of the activities on offer. Optional horseback trails, with a qualified guide, enable guests to become one with nature and to experience close encounters with wildlife.
