Abu Camp

Abu Camp is deep within a massive private concession on the western side of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Their famous elephant safaris are for many the ultimate safari, with days spent in total comfort with a herd of habituated African elephants. The camp has a lovely setting under a canopy of large trees overlooking floodplains and waterways.

Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation at Abu Camp for 12 guests is in luxurious custom designed tents on teak decks, individually furnished with mahogany four-poster beds and proper bathrooms overlooking the lagoon beyond. Each room has a tree-shaded verandah with comfortable chairs, freestanding outdoor bath, indoor and outdoor showers, a writing desk and large bathroom.  There is a spacious dining and relaxation area which is centred around a giant termite mound and sculpted around some of the magnificent trees found in the Okavango Delta. A well-stocked library is a great place to relax, and there is also a secluded plunge pool for guests to cool off in during the heat of the day. An extra feature of the camp is the Abu Star Bed, raised on a platform above the elephant sleeping quarters, where guests can spend the night under the stars and close to the elephants.

Wildlife & Activities
Elephants are complete hedonists and have a routine of relaxed enjoyment, eating, bathing, meditating and going for long walks through the bush. Observing these activities and getting to understand these legendary creatures is exactly what a safari at Abu Camp is all about. In addition to spending time with the elephants, walking or sleeping with them, guests can also go for day and night drives, and mokoro (dug-out canoe) trips if water levels permit. Fishing is permitted from March to December, and bush walks without the elephants, which must be pre-booked, are also possible.
