Mvuu Lodge

Mvuu Lodge is situated in the heart of Liwonde National Park to the south of Lake Malawi, on the banks of a quiet lagoon flowing off the Shire River. Although Liwonde has not traditionally been known for predators, hyena are often heard and there are small but growing numbers of lion, cheetah and leopard. The park supports large numbers of antelope including sable, waterbuck, impala, and kudu, and plenty of elephant, hippos and crocodiles. Well established breeding and reintroduction programmes focus on black rhino, roan and eland, among others.

Accommodation & Facilities
The lodge offers comfortable tented accommodation in eight spacious ‘Hemingway’ styled safari tents spaced well apart in the dense bush, with en-suite bathrooms and shaded verandahs overlooking the lagoon. The two most privately located rooms form a family unit with its own plunge pool, boma, chef and safari guide. The lodge has a swimming pool, a hide overlooking the river, an al fresco dining room and lounge area. Mvuu Lodge also has a star bed, where guests have the opportunity to sleep-out on a raised platform under the African skies (weather permitting).

Wildlife & Activities
Activities at Mvuu Lodge include day and night wildlife drives in open vehicles, guided walks, village visits and river boat safaris. By boat you can explore the Shire River and lagoons where there are great opportunities to spot elephant, numerous hippo and crocodile, and occasionally lion too. Birding is particularly rewarding – specialities include Lillian’s lovebird, brown breasted barbet, osprey, palm nut vulture, Pel’s fishing owl and Livingstone’s flycatcher. Guests at Liwonde can, with special permission, visit the well-protected rhino sanctuary in the park, which also contains Lichtenstein’s hartebeest and buffalo.
