Xigera Safari Lodge

Xigera Safari Lodge is a magnificent luxury tented safari lodge in a remote and very beautiful region of the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. This part of the Delta has several deeper river channels and many smaller waterways, in addition to floodplains and papyrus swamps. Access into this area is only by aircraft and if the water levels are high during the flood season, guests may be transferred from the airstrip to camp by mokoro or boat.

Accommodation & Facilities
Positioned beside a deeper channel of the Delta, Xigera has 12 huge elevated tented suites positioned on two small islands, all with air-conditioned bedrooms, a lounge, dressing room, inside and outside dining areas, en-suite bathroom with a free standing bath, a flushing loo, and an outside shower under the stars. Outside each suite is a large viewing deck with a secluded shaded sala. one of the 12 suites has two en-suite bedrooms, and is designed to be ideal for a family. The different parts of the lodge are linked by bridges that allow wildlife to walk underneath. The central lodge has a sunken lounge, a bar and a wine cellar, and a dining room with an open sided interactive kitchen. Guests can relax in the air-conditioned library, enjoy a treatment in the spa, or make use of the gym or the pool. A little way away the three storey Baobab House is a sleep-out deck designed to resemble a baobab tree. With a bathroom and shower on the lower floor, an enclosed bedroom on the middle, and an open air deck on top, it is a lovely place for a private night in the wilderness.

Wildlife & Activities
Xigera is traditionally viewed as a water focused lodge, with mokoro and boat trips on offer year round. The mokoros (dug-out canoes) here have glass bottoms, and are propelled along the channels by experienced polers. Trips on double decker boats into the nearby papyrus swamps and into the heart of Chiefs’ Island are a wonderful way to experience this magnificent place. On dry land, open 4wd vehicles allow guests to get close to animals such as lion, elephant, giraffe and kudu in the savannah areas. Birding here is excellent thanks to the varied habitats, and visitors have a good chance of seeing plains wildlife and the rare marsh dwelling sitatunga. Walking safaris and seasonal catch and release fishing are also offered, and a night in the Baobab sleep out ‘tree’ can be arranged for an additional fee.
