Over half the holidays we put together at Aardvark are for families travelling to Africa.
The first safari company to have a dedicated family brochure, and parents ourselves, we really are experts in our field. We’ve travelled with toddlers and teenagers, from Cape Town to Kenya and can advise on anything from water skiing to wildebeest.

| Go wild in Kenya |

Visit Kenya and as well as seeing a large amount of Africa’s incredible wildlife at close quarters you can swim and tube in rivers, jump off waterfalls, track animals with Samburu and Masai guides, ride horses and camels, sleep under the stars, fish, walk with local guides through the land where they live, and camp in places of great beauty. And if you’re tired after all this, then relax for a few days on Kenya’s glorious Indian Ocean coast (for the not tired then there’s water skiing, sailing and snorkelling to enjoy!)

| Malaria-free fun in South Africa |

South Africa is hard to beat for a first time African family safari; with direct flights, minimal time change and – if you want to avoid Malaria pills - plenty of family friendly lodges in non-malarial areas. With safari highlights including horse riding, Big 5 game viewing, playing with habituated meerkats, star gazing and swimming with penguins there’s something for everyone. Add Cape Town, the Winelands and superb beaches along the Garden Route and you’ve a real winner.

Inevitably parents take priority at many safari camps but several, like Guludo eco-lodge on the Northern Mozambique coast, have reversed the trend, with kids’ activities being the focus of the stay. Football matches with the locals, craft workshops and pottery classes combined with endless waters sports will guarantee children arrive home feeling like the holiday really was made for them. What better way could there be to celebrate an anniversary, birthday or a one-off holiday than in your own private house or camp in one of Africa’s fabulous game parks? Staffed by a dedicated host, cook and safari guide family groups get total flexibility and can plan their days to suit everyone. Current Aardvark favourites are Topi, Acacia and Mara Houses in Kenya’s Masai Mara, Chongwe River House on the banks of the Lower Zambezi River in Zambia, and Kiba Point in Tanzania.
