Kwandwe Ecca Lodge

The 54,000 acre Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is in the heart of South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape and has five separate lodges. It is a safari destination in its own right or could be the natural conclusion or beginning to a journey along the world-famous Garden Route.

Accommodation & Facilities

Kwandwe Ecca Lodge is contemporary in style with its rooms constructed from stone gabions, providing light and airy accommodation with a modern slant to it. The decoration is lively and fun and each of the six suites has a generous sitting room. Three of these suites can accommodate children on daybeds in the sitting room. The wraparound wooden decks have private plunge pools and other facilities include air-conditioning, in-room bar and indoor and outdoor showers. The main areas of the lodge include an open-plan, interactive kitchen, sitting room, dining room, bar area, children’s play centre and larger swimming pool.

Wildlife & Activities

Kwandwe is home to some intriguing habitats and good wildlife, including lion, black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant and cheetah. Predators are often sighted and there’s a good chance (in the African winter months) of seeing the elusive aardvark. During a stay here guests can enjoy day and night drives, guided bush walks, picnics, bush sundowners and fishing on the river, or can simply choose to do nothing and absorb this vast, private wilderness. Specialist walking safaris can also be arranged, searching for large animals such as elephant and buffalo with a specialised guide and tracker, subject to the availability of the guiding team. From 1st May to 30th September guests over 16 years old have the option to do an overnight walking safari with a night fly-camping for a small additional charge; please let us know if you would like to do this, as it must be pre-booked.
