Kwandwe Great Fish River Lodge

The 54,000 acre Kwandwe Private Game Reserve is in the heart of South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape and houses four separate lodges. It is a safari destination in its own right or could be the natural conclusion or beginning to a journey along the world-famous Garden Route.

Accommodation & Facilities
Great Fish River Lodge is set on the steep banks of the Great Fish River with spectacular views over the surrounding landscape. The lodge has a colonial feel, with woven rugs, large fireplaces, antique china, and silver and pewter artefacts. Each of the nine thatched suites has en-suite facilities, large verandah with private plunge pool, air-conditioning, wireless internet, in-room bar, and indoor and outdoor showers. The floor to ceiling glass doors fold back to give impressive, uninterrupted views. Lodge facilities are completed by a main dining and lounge area, library and wine cellar.

Wildlife & Activities
Kwandwe is home to some intriguing habitats and good game, including lion, black and white rhino, buffalo, elephant and cheetah. Predators are often sighted and there’s a good chance (in the African winter months) of seeing the elusive aardvark. During a stay here guests can enjoy day and night game drives, guided bush walks, picnics, bush sundowners and fishing on the river, or can simply choose to do nothing and absorb this vast, private wilderness. Specialist walking safaris can also be arranged, searching for large animals such as elephant and buffalo with a specialised guide and tracker, subject to the availability of the guiding team. From 1st May to 30th September guests over 16 years old have the option to do an overnight walking safari with a night fly-camping for a small additional charge; please let us know if you would like to do this, as it must be pre-booked.
