Chikwenya

Chikwenya Camp sits beside the Zambezi River in a private concession on the eastern edge of Mana Pools National Park in northern Zimbabwe. The camp is tucked into a grove of Natal mahogany and winter-thorn trees, with a magnificent view of the river and the Zambezi escarpment in Zambia.

Accommodation & Facilities

Chikwenya has seven tents, two of which are set up for families, all linked by low walkways to the main lodge. The tents all face the river and have beautifully designed en-suite bathrooms that offer views of the river too, with a shower and a bath. The bedrooms have plenty of space, and also come with seating and a desk. At the front of each tent is a shaded verandah, an ideal spot for a few hours relaxation between wildlife viewing activities. The camp has a lovely dining room, lounge and bar in the central lodge, and a pool on the deck outside.

Wildlife & Activities

Mana Pools, one of several World Heritage sites in Zimbabwe, is a spectacularly beautiful place, framed by the Zambezi River to its north and a 600 metre escarpment at the southern edge. The wildlife is prolific thanks to the year round water supply, and the presence of huge expanses of winter-thorn trees, the seed pods of which provide a protein rich food source for herbivores in the dry season. Elephant love winter-thorn pods, and are often found in and around the camp. Big herds of buffalo and eland are regularly seen in Mana Pools, along with lion, leopard, wild dog, kudu, impala, waterbuck and zebra. The river is home to large numbers of hippo and crocodile, and the bird life is also excellent thanks to the varied habitats. The activities on offer at Chikwenya include game drives in open vehicles, walking safaris, boat trips, canoeing and fishing.
