Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp
Cottar’s 1920’s Safari Camp is situated in a 7,600 acre concession on the eastern edge of Kenya’s Masai Mara bordering the Loita Hills, and the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves in Tanzania. The camp was first opened in the 1920’s by the Cottar family, and it has passed down the generations to Calvin and Louise Cottar who now own the camp. With its long history of being family owned and run, Cottar’s is a wonderful choice for a family safari and children of all ages are welcome here.
Accommodation & Facilities
Cottar’s Camp accommodates a maximum of 28 guests in 11 authentic and spacious pale canvas safari tents, which are all luxuriously furnished. Each has an en-suite bathroom and private verandah. The family accommodation at Cottar’s is designed so that families have their own space, experience and fun. The camp has three family suites in huge double sized tents with living rooms and fireplaces. The tents have a large double four-poster bed separated by a curtain from twin four poster beds. They have the option to add two extra children’s bed (12yrs and younger) thereby sleeping up to two adults and four children. In addition there are five double and one twin tent where the option of adding one extra bed, suitable for children 12 years and younger, is available. The child friendly pool is sloped and has steps. It is not heated but gets very warm during the day. The camp has two large mess tents, with a dining room, lounge and bar, and a small spa.
Eating & Sleeping
Children can have separate meal times and the kitchen can accommodate children’s favourite meals including milkshakes, fish and chips, shepherd’s pie, cauliflower cheese etc. A nanny can be provided free of charge.
Wildlife & Activities
Cottar’s has some of the finest guides in Kenya, and in one of the best wildlife viewing areas in the world, a truly memorable safari is guaranteed. As well as night and day drives in an open 4×4 vehicle, fishing, walking safaris, visits to local communities and swimming in a natural plunge pool are all activities that can be enjoyed from Cottar’s 1920s Safari Camp. Among the animals guests can expect to see are lion, cheetah, elephant, and buffalo along with a multitude of plains wildlife. The guides here are excellent with children and will ensure the whole family has a wonderful experience.
