Fregate Island

A 20 minute helicopter flight from Mahé, and surrounded by its own coral reef, Fregate is one of the most isolated of the 115 islands in the Seychelles archipelago. Dominated by the 125 metre high Mount Signal, the two square kilometre granite island is fringed by secluded pristine white sand beaches and its own special variety of wildlife. Children of all ages are welcome.

Accommodation & Facilities
All bar two of Fregate’s 17 luxurious villas are spread along the cliff top offering spectacular ocean views, the remaining two are set amid lush tropical gardens. Each villa is assigned a butler and has a large living room and a separate elegantly decorated master bedroom with en-suite bathroom. French doors open onto an outside rainforest shower, beyond which is a generous terrace with infinity pool, jacuzzi and king size day bed. Some of the villas have direct beach access. The private pool twin villa is best suited to families and features a master bedroom with a king size bed, a second twin bedroom both with en-suite bathrooms and a dining room and a living area offering spectacular views over the Indian Ocean. The private pool twin villa can accommodate four adults and up to two children.

There are three restaurants and a beach bar offering Creole and international cuisine made from locally grown fruit and vegetables and catch of the day. Guest can also choose to dine in the privacy of the villa or in a number of romantic locations on the island.  Finally the Rock Spa offers a range of facilities and treatment rooms for massages, training or yoga sessions.

Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are happy to prepare any foods that children enjoy at times to suit and there is a children’s menu including fish goujons, pizza, grilled chicken, spaghetti bolognaise, island fruit sorbet etc.  Specific dietary requirements can be accommodated with prior notice. Babysitting is available at a cost of US$20/hour.

Activities
Guests have the use of their own golf buggy to explore the island and it’s secluded beaches. There is excellent swimming, snorkelling, diving and fishing on the island. Among other activities are bird watching – the rare magpie robin is found only on Fregate Island – and guided walks through lush vegetation. For those interested in the island’s pirate folklore, there is the harbour and plenty of ruins to investigate.

Specifically for children …
• Treasure hunt – follow the clues to the ancient ruins and find the pirate’s loot.
• Kids’ yoga at the Rock Spa
• Adopt a tortoise – adopt a small Aldabra giant tortoise and watch it make its first steps in the wild.
• Feed James, the oldest giant Aldabra tortoise, with starfruits and bananas.
• Night rock fishing at the marina.
• Adventurous plantation tour – collect fruit and vegetables from the garden and cook your own fruit kebab.
• Make your own pizza or design your own cupcakes.
• Night walk – join Fregate’s chief ecologist and go for a night walk into the jungle in search of little nightime crawlies.
