Khwai Bush Camp
Khwai Bush Camp is located on the banks of the permanent Khwai River, just outside the Moremi Game Reserve in northern Botswana. Shaded by a grove of sycamore fig and leadwood trees, the camp is the ideal base for a family to explore the Okavango Delta.
Accommodation & Facilities
As a family focused camp, the thatched accommodation comprises of four standard and two family chalets with private en-suite bathrooms and views overlooking the floodplain. The camp is spacious and comfortable with a thatched roof and verandah that overlooks Moremi Game Reserve. Meals are mostly eaten outside on a raised decking area. There is a lovely fire pit that is the perfect place to enjoy a pre or post dinner drink. A decent sized pool is an ideal place to cool down on hot days. With child specialist guides, children can enjoy bush walks, cooking classes, story telling and arts and crafts.
Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are happy to prepare food that children enjoy at mealtimes to suit and will discuss children’s dietary preferences with parents on arrival. If there are any specific dietary requests, please advise prior to travel. Babysitting is not available so parents need to be responsible for their children at all times.
Wildlife & Activities
Khwai Tented Camp is a great location from which to see elephant, buffalo, zebra, lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog, giraffe, eland, sable, hippo, hyena and various other nocturnal species, on day and night game drives as well as walking safaris. If water levels permit, guests can also enjoy gliding through the waterways in a mokoro (dug-out canoe). Visits to the local communities are also possible.
Specifically for children …
Children are welcomed into camp with a special Cub Club starter kit, which includes a book bag, a colouring book featuring the animals they are likely to see on safari and colouring pencils. Many of the activities on offer can be tailor-made for children including:
• Bush walks – learn how to identify spoor, track animals, the traditional uses of plants, bird watching and hunt for the ‘Little 5’.
• Story telling.
• Arts and crafts and beading.
