Lagoon Camp

Lagoon Camp is located on the shady banks of the Kwando River in the 232,000 hectare Kwando concession in Northern Botswana. The camp is set in a forested private wilderness amongst African ebony and marula trees. Children from six years are welcome provided a private vehicle is booked. Children under six years are welcome if the camp is taken exclusively.

Accommodation & Facilities
Lagoon Camp accommodates only 16 guests in eight luxury safari tents. The tents are comfortable with polished wooden floors, king size beds and look out over the water with views onto the lagoon. Each has en-suite facilities. The camp also has a small lounge area and a plunge pool with sun loungers. Meals are served in a thatched dining room overlooking the lagoon.  There is a family tent that can accommodate a family of four in two bedrooms with a shared bathroom. An extra single bed can be provided so the total occupancy is two adults and three children.

Eating & Sleeping
Separate mealtimes for children and families, and specific dietary requests, can be accommodated with advance warning. Babysitting is provided by female members of staff if required.

Wildlife & Activities

The area surrounding the camp has big herds of wildlife, especially in winter, with hundreds of elephant, buffalo herds in their thousands and numerous hippo pods in the river channels. These herds in turn draw in the big predators in large numbers. Wild dog are also regularly sighted in the area.  Wildlife viewing is by open safari vehicle, both day and night, on the water by boat, and on foot. Walking is seasonal and at the discretion of the guides due to the high concentration of buffalo and elephants. As well as the large herds of buffalo and elephant found close by, there is excellent birding and good wild dog populations too. Guests staying at Lagoon Camp also have the opportunity to fish for tiger fish and bream in the Kwando River itself from March to the end of December.

Specifically for children …
Families with children under 12 years are required to book a private vehicle which allows for maximum flexibility whilst staying at Lagoon Camp. Prior to arrival families will be sent a ‘get to know you questionnaire’ so that the guide assigned to the family can tailor the safari to the family’s interests. Activities include:
• ‘Walking on the wild side’ around the camp and learning some Bayei survival skills including animal tracking and orienteering.
• Plaster-casting animal tracks for the perfect memento to share with friends back home.
• Enjoying the ‘night life’ as there’s lots to see by moonlight. (See what happens to a scorpion at night – surprise!)
• Press some flowers to take home and learn how to make traditional baskets and bangles from grass.
• Casting a rod while listening to stories of how the Bayei people live off the land in the Delta.
• Roger that! Learning the original ways of bush radio communication and alphabet
