Mdonya Old River Camp

Mdonya Old River Camp is situated in the north west of Ruaha National Park beside the old course of the Mdonya River, a few kilometres from the Mdonya Falls. The Ruaha, although less well known than some of Tanzania’s other parks, has a wealth of wildlife with large concentrations of elephant, giraffe and buffalo, and over 520 species of birds.

Accommodation & Facilities
Guests at Mdonya Old River Camp are accommodated in 12 large tents, well spaced apart along the old course of the river.  Each tent has a double or twin bed with an en-suite open air bathroom that has a flush loo and shower. There is no electricity in the tents and light is provided by candles making this a true safari experience. The dining and lounge tents sit under sycamore fig trees overlooking the dry river bed, which is used by wildlife as a corridor, so guests can enjoy the wildlife viewing while having lunch or relaxing.

Wildlife & Activities
Wildlife viewing at Mdonya Old River Camp is centred on day time drives.  In addition to elephant, buffalo and giraffe, the species regularly seen include lion, leopard, hyena, kudu, waterbuck, warthog, zebra and impala.  The camp suits anybody in search of an authentic tented safari experience well away from some of the busier national parks.
