Offbeat Mara Camp

Offbeat Mara Camp is a traditional bush camp in the Mara North Conservancy which borders Kenya’s wildlife rich Masai Mara. The camp is perched on the shady banks of the Olare Orok River, impinging little on the natural habitat, and the plentiful resident wildlife wanders through the area unperturbed. The owners have young children of their own so are particularly in tune with what makes a great family safari. The Masai guides all come from extended families and are very welcoming, engaging and interactive with children of all ages.

Accommodation & Facilities
Offbeat Mara Camp has seven luxury tents, three of which have been designed with families in mind, comprising a double and twin room. Each of the other four tents is roomy enough to allow an extra bed for a child. All are en-suite with bucket showers, flushing loos, huge wooden beds and internal lighting. There is a small lounge tent with comfy chairs and a small bar, a great place to relax at the end of the day with a small library of reference books. Evenings are generally spent sitting around the camp fire and eating dinner under the stars.

Eating & Sleeping

Families can enjoy private dinners in the mess tent or the kitchen can provide an early supper if the children are tired so parents can enjoy a child free evening. There are no set children’s menus but parents can request from a range of child friendly food including pasta, pizza, sausages, fish fingers etc. A listening service is available at no extra cost whereby an Askari/guide will be posted outside the children’s tent if they have gone to bed early. The askari will then radio the manager at dinner in case the children wake up/need their parents. A nanny can be arranged for an additional fee.

Wildlife & Activities
Guided walking safaris and game drives with experienced guides in specially adapted 4×4 vehicles allow guests to view the incredible Masai Mara wildlife. Between July and October, large herds of wildebeest and zebra migrate from the adjoining Serengeti, providing a seasonal feast for the numerous predators such as lion, leopard and cheetah that live here year round. Among the additional activities on offer are night drives, visits to a rhino sanctuary, a local market and schools
