Old Mondoro

Old Mondoro is a small traditional bush camp set in a grove of acacia trees on the banks of the Zambezi River in the Lower Zambezi National Park, near the Chakwenga River confluence. It is a beautiful site overlooking a maze of hippo-inhabited islands and channels.

Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodating just 10 guests at any time, Old Mondoro’s six rooms, one of which suits a family, are constructed of reed and canvas, screened against insects, each with a shaded deck overlooking the Zambezi. The rooms each have one king size or two single beds, electric reading lamps and a 220v power point for charging cameras, en-suite flush loo and washbasin, 24/7 hot and cold water, outdoor shower and bath with views of the Zambezi. Though the camp has an open adventurous feel, it provides a more than comfortable retreat after a day filled with excitement in the bush. A traditional bush kitchen supplies outstanding meals and fresh bread baked daily from a homemade oven.

Wildlife & Activities
Big bull elephants are often close to the camp, and provide lovely viewing from the camp. The area around Old Mondoro is superb for walking safaris, which can often begin at the camp. Day and night wildlife drives, canoe trips, boat safaris and catch and release fishing are good ways to see more of this beautiful part of the Lower Zambezi National Park. The wildlife viewing is excellent, with elephant, leopard and buffalo activity as well as frequent lion and serval sightings, and the occasional wild dog. Plains species, such as zebra and kudu, are also regularly seen in the area.
