Sayari Camp
Sayari is situated in the remote northern part of the Serengeti close to the Mara River and overlooking the Masai Mara beyond. The spectacular landscape, which includes heavily wooded areas, teems with wildlife. Throughout the year the area offers excellent cat and plains game viewing as well as crocodile and hippo in the Mara River. Children from five years are welcome.
Accommodation & Facilities
The camp consists of 15 spacious luxury tents, split into two wings, to retain the intimacy of a small scale camp, one with nine tents and one with six tents, all of which are raised on wooden platforms. Each tent at Sayari is equipped with contemporary, comfortable furniture, king sized beds, an en-suite bathroom with running water, separate flush loo, separate shower and free standing bath. The verandah, bed and bath in each tent offer panoramic views over the Serengeti. Each wing has its own lounge and dining area. The new family tent offers accommodation for a maximum capacity of five people.
The child friendly infinity swimming pool, styled as a Maasai boma and overlooking the northern plains, is the perfect spot to cool off, or for true relaxation book an in-room spa treatment.
Eating & Sleeping
The chefs are happy to prepare any foods that children enjoy (e.g. pizza, hamburgers, chicken strips, etc.) and will discuss children’s dietary preferences with parents on arrival. Specific dietary requests can be accommodated with prior notice.
There is no formal childcare provision but should parents wish to dine later than their children, a guard – subject to availability – can be posted outside the children’s tent.
Wildlife & Activities
Sayari camp offers game drives, short walking safaris during low season and balloon safaris which comes at an additional cost. The resident game is excellent throughout the year. The camp is also in a fantastic location for the wildebeest migration when, from July to November, thousands of zebra and wildebeest cross the Mara River on their way north through the Serengeti into the Masai Mara and back. When the migration has left for the southern plains, the area offers a wonderful private concession-like experience, with very few other visitors and guests can take advantage of the privacy by going on adventurous walking safaris, which either take place either in early morning or late afternoon.
Specifically for children …
Chilren will be given an activity pack on arrival which is filled with toys and games to keep them entertained both in camp and out on safari. Although Sayari warmly welcomes children from five years, there are not any specific activities for children. That said, the guides are adept at keeping children engaged in the bush and finding exciting, fun activities to suit all attention spans – star gazing and walks close to camp are popular with younger guests. There is a lovely shop which will keep ‘tweens’ busy and a great map room for kids to delve and learn more about the geography, geology, flora and fauna of the area. Community and school visits just outside the park boundary can also be arranged.
