Tafika

Tafika Camp overlooks the Luangwa River in a quiet part of the South Luangwa National Park.  It has been the home of John and Carol Coppinger since 1995 and is the base camp for their company, Remote Africa Safaris.

Accommodation & Facilities
The accommodation here is in six comfortable thatched, spacious cottages set under the shade of a group of giant lead wood trees.  Each cottage has en-suite facilities with a private open air bathroom complete with flush loo and hot and cold running water.  The centre of the camp has a large thatched ‘sitenje’ which houses the bar, dining room, and plentiful seating areas. The camp has wonderful views over the floodplains and water of the Luangwa River, and is open during the dry season from May to November.

Wildlife & Activities
South Luangwa National Park has the highest concentration of hippo and crocodile in Africa, as well as a good diversity of general wildlife.  Activities are plentiful and diverse at Tafika; as well as day and night drives, and walking safaris in the wildlife rich South Luangwa National Park, Tafika also offers mountain biking, and visits to Mkasanga Village. Guests can also make use of two permanent hides located beside the water, as well as a seasonal hide positioned close to a colony of nesting carmine bee eaters. It is also possible spend a night or two on a walking safari at either of the nearby Chikoko Trails Camps which are just upstream of Tafika.  Guests transferring here would normally do so as part of a morning or afternoon wildlife drive.
