Xigera is a beautiful tented camp in a remote section of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta, in Botswana. Access into this area is only by aircraft and if the water levels are high in winter, a mokoro trip or a boat will transfer guests from the airstrip to camp.
Accommodation & Facilities
The ten tented rooms at Xigera are large and comfortably appointed, with an en-suite bathroom with hot and cold running water, shower, and flush loo – and an outside shower under the stars. The camp has a plunge pool too, and overlooks a floodplain and a waterhole.
Wildlife & Activities
Xigera offers both water and land activities, although if water levels are high land activities may not be possible. Mokoros (dug-out canoes) traverse the Okavango flood plains under the guidance of experienced polers, and boat trips into the nearby papyrus swamps and into the heart of Chiefs’ Island are a wonderful way to experience this magnificent place. On dry land, open 4wd vehicles allow guests to get close to animals in the savannah areas. Birding in the area is excellent and visitors have a good chance of seeing plains wildlife and the rare marsh dwelling sitatunga. Please note that water levels will determine the location of the boat station and the length of trips, and also the mokoro excursions. Walks on islands may also be a part of a mokoro trip.
