Zomba Forest Lodge

Zomba Forest Lodge is situated half way up the 6,000 foot high Zomba Plateau making it an ideal place to access the numerous walking and hiking trails.  On top of the mountain there are acres of cedar, pine and cypress as well as a mixture of other vegetation. The plateau top is criss-crossed by streams as well as having many waterfalls and lakes.

Accommodation & Facilities
This old colonial house is set in spacious grounds and consists of four simple en-suite bedrooms and a cosy and intimate lounge-diner with a fireplace. It is completely off-grid so at night the lounge is lit up mainly by candle light, paraffin lamps and solar lanterns bathing the rooms in a wonderfully atmospheric glow. The lodge has two pet dogs.

Wildlife & Activities
There is a semi-resident troupe of samango and vervet monkeys in the vicinity of the lodge and several species of antelope are occasional visitors to the grounds. There are a number of excellent walking trails around the lodge as well as on the top of the plateau where the outstanding viewpoints were described in colonial times as being some of ‘the best in the British Empire’. As well as walking and hiking other activities available from Zomba Forest Lodge include bird watching and guided tours from the lodge and around the plateau, trips to Liwonde National Park, bird watching in Lake Chilwa, a visit to Chikala Pillars, excursions to Zomba Market, and seasonal wild orchid walks.
