Safaris Unlimited

Tony Church pioneered Kenyan riding safaris in the 1970s and now his son Gordie heads up Safaris Unlimited, leading riders across the wildlife hotspots of the greater Mara conservancies and Laikipia Plateau.

The riding
Safaris Unlimited have a string of 30 safari horses which are a mixture of Somali-Arab crossbreeds and Thoroughbreds.  Most of the horses have been raised at the Safaris Unlimited ranch in central Kenya and, having lived at close quarters with wildlife, are well used to the game encountered on safari.  Each ride is guided by Gordie who has a passion for Kenya’s wilderness and an encyclopaedic knowledge of the flora and fauna.  You should expect to ride for between four and eight hours per day, covering anywhere between 20 to 40 kilometres. The camp typically moves every other day, meaning guests have one full day in camp, followed by a full day of riding. This gives you the true sense of an African safari. Non-riders are also very welcome to join the adventure and take part in a vehicle or on foot.  Most of the safaris cater for private groups so can be designed entirely around the wishes of those in the party.  Safaris Unlimited also operate a small number of fixed departure rides which operate on set dates throughout the year.

Accommodation & Facilities
Guests sleep in large safari-style tents which are erected in the beautiful and remote areas and will be ready as you arrive back from a day in the saddle.  To the front of each tent is a wash basin and just behind is a private long drop loo and a safari “bucket” shower. The tents are equipped with twin or double beds, fine linen and cosy duvets. Delicious meals are prepared every day and are eaten communally in the dining tent.
