The response to our latest e-newsletter has shown us the deep desire people have to experience Africa and its special places. While we may not be able to hop on a plane just yet, there is the chance to live some of the experiences vicariously through television. Our team has enjoyed the following recent tv shows and we thought we’d share them with you in case you’d missed them and felt the need for an Africa fix – they’re all available on catch up:

1. Secret Safari: Into the Wild (More4)
Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya is the setting of an intimate journey into the lives of 13,000 wild animals. The stories are told by a team of dedicated rangers who live and work side by side with the creatures they help protect.
Richard says: Really interesting to see the conservancy through the rangers’ eyes and watch them make decisions for the good of the wildlife and the eco-system.

2. Cheetah Family & Me (BBC iPlayer)
Renowned wildlife filmmaker Gordon Buchanan gets close to wild cheetah in the stunning Kalahari, experiencing first hand the very real dangers these beautiful big cats face.
Alice says: Tswalu is one of the highlights of South Africa for me and I loved seeing Gordon track the cheetah and document their lives in this tough environment.

3. A Perfect Planet (BBC iPlayer)
Our planet is one in a billion. How incredible, awe-inspiring life is driven by its natural forces – and how we can ensure humans become a force for good.
Lucinda says: A series that’s not just Africa, but there are plenty of mentions of our favourite countries including the book ends of Tanzania in the first episode and Kenya in the last.

4. South Africa with Gregg Wallace (ITV hub)
Gregg Wallace sets off to explore South Africa’s most iconic and best-loved landscapes and experiences. Along the way, his love of food unlocks its culture, landscapes and people.
Becky says: His enthusiasm for new experiences, as well as his love of people and food, shines through.

5. Chris Packham’s Animal Einsteins (BBC iPlayer)
Animals have to be smart to survive. Chris Packham reveals the natural world’s surprising brainboxes and uncovers the clever strategies that give certain species the upper hand.
Francis says: This is not strictly just Africa or African animals, but it’s fascinating how animals’ strategies and intelligence measure up against humans.
